Srinagar, Oct 01: The Police on Friday claimed to have arrested an active Lashker-e-Toiba militant in Zainapora area of Shopian district.
A police spokesman in a statement said that on a specific input about the movement of militant planning an attack on security forces, a joint naka by Shopian police, 01 RR and CRPF BN 178 was established at Mujhmarg junction.
“At about 6.24 pm an individual in a suspicious condition moved out of orchard on seeing the suspect, security forces challenged him but the suspect tried to flee away. The nearby security personnel immediately approached him and overpowered him,” the statement added.
One live hand grenade and 29 live round of calibre 7.62 mm were recovered .The apprehended suspect disclosed his name as Kamran Bashir Hajam son of Bashir Ahmed Hajam resident of Babapora an active militant of LeT, the statement added.
Accordingly FIR no 117/2021 lodged under relevant sections of law registered at Police Station Zainapora. Further questioning going on, reads the statement.
In another separate operation, the J&K police on Friday claimed to have arrested a militant of LeT outfit in Kashmir's Pulwama district.
An official told in a tweet that Pulwama police and security forces apprehended a categorised militant identified as Shamim Sofi son of Ghulam Mohammad Sofi of Nikloora.
He said that incriminating material including arms and ammunition were also recovered from his possession.
