    Pay Water Bills On Time

It is worthwhile to note that the Jammu Municipal Corporation has started a comprehensive campaign with regard to spreading awareness about clearing the water bills as all the daily newspapers have carried news asking the consumers to pay bills before March 31, 2026. The initiative reflects a serious concern on the part of the authorities regarding the growing backlog of unpaid dues and the urgent need to address this issue in a timely and effective manner. Such campaigns not only inform the public but also remind them of their civic duties which are essential for the smooth functioning of basic services.

Reportedly, the Jal Shakti Department (JSD), Divisions 1 and 2 functioning within the jurisdiction of JMC have also established 12 dedicated camps at various locations across Jammu to educate residents about the importance of the timely payment of water charges and to provide convenient on-the-spot payment facilities. Under Division 1, camps have been set up at Roopnagar, Dhonthli, Resham Ghar, Janipur and Hazuri Bagh while under Division 2, camps are operational at Kunjwani, Trikuta Nagar, Sainik Colony, Digiana Ashram, Channi Himmat, Channi Rama and Greater Kailash. It is pertinent to mention that water dues amounting to nearly Rs. 30 crore are still pending across Jammu city, which significantly impacts the department’s ability to maintain and upgrade infrastructure.

The people should understand that paying bills for water and electricity connections is necessary to sustain the infrastructure and continue with the services as for every drop of water and a unit of electricity, the government has to spend a lot of money and utilize multiple resources. The tendency to delay bill payments creates many hurdles for the authorities. Therefore, people should pay their bills on time. This responsibility is not only administrative but also moral, as public services depend heavily on public cooperation.

It is very easy to overlook this routine obligation but the people should understand that this carelessness can lead to a bigger problem for the authorities to manage their operations and provide an uninterrupted supply of potable water. The attitude of heedlessness in this case is not at all acceptable because the consequences extend beyond personal inconvenience, affecting the maintenance of supply systems, the quality of services, and the equitable distribution of this vital resource. In an era where water scarcity is becoming an increasingly pressing concern, timely payment is not merely a financial duty but a shared responsibility toward sustainable and efficient water management.

Another important aspect that needs attention is the role of public awareness and participation in strengthening such initiatives. When citizens actively cooperate and respond positively to such campaigns, it creates a culture of responsibility and accountability. This, in turn, helps the authorities to plan better, implement reforms effectively, and ensure that essential services reach every household without disruption.

It is therefore imperative for the people having PHE connections of tap water not to waste any time and pay their pending dues so that authorities can ensure water supply and the condition of disconnecting connections should not arise.
