Parents on hunger strike against ‘organised loot’ of private schools

Date:

Tawi, June 29: Parents of the students of private schools started an indefinite hunger strike at Jammu on Monday against what they called ‘organised loot' by the management of various institutions.

The hunger strike was started under the banner of ‘Parents Association Jammu' to mount pressure on the higher-ups of the department to take action against private schools.

“Private schools are openly violating orders of the education department and organised loot is going unabated yet no action has been taken so far,” Amit Kapoor, president of the association, said and pointed out that apart from tuition fee, parents were forced to deposit annual charges and to buy books and uniforms from selective shops.

“If governments of Uttrakhand, and , Chennai can waive off the school fees for the lockdown period then why not UT administration of J&K?” he asked.

The association demanded implementation of right to education in J&K, waiving off fees during COVID-19 period, waiving off annual charges for the current financial year, only CBSE and JKBOSE books should be prescribed in schools and audit reports of the last five years of all schools should be made public.
