A furious BSF has asked for a flag meeting with their Pakistan counterparts over the issue. Sources in the BSF said there has been no response from the Pakistani Rangers yet.

The incident underlines the heightened tension between and Pakistan in the wake of India's surgical strike across the Line of Control in and , in which 50 terrorists were gunned down and eight terror camps destroyed by the Indian Army on Thursday.

India had conducted the surgical strike to avenge the killing of 19 Indian soldiers by Pakistan-based terrorists when they stormed into an army camp in Jammu and Kashmir's Uri area close to the LoC.

India had cancelled the Beating Retreat ceremony, a daily ritual that is witnessed by tourists on both sides of the border, on Thursday. The event is rarely cancelled.

India is on high alert following intelligence reports that Pakistani terrorists may launch an attack while the festive season is on. People living within 10 kms of the international border with Pakistan in Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab have been asked to shift to safer places.
