Kargil, Apr 20 (KNO): With the partial reopening of the vital Zojila Pass that connects Kargil with the rest of the world, the authorities Tuesday allowed over a dozen vehicles carrying essential stock towards the region bringing a respite to the local populace amid a shortage of essentials.

The authorities had Monday assured that the vital Zojila pass clearance operation will be completed by Tuesday evening and the vehicles carrying essential commodities will be allowed to move given the dearth of required stock during the holy month of Ramadhan in Kargil.

Talking to news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), Kargil Feroz Ahmad Khan said that over a dozen vehicles (Mini-load carriers) were allowed to proceed towards the region.

He said that the essential stock allowed to proceed towards the district include, Dates, Fresh Fruits, and Vegetables.

All these vehicles were already halted at Sonamarg while the Heavy Motor Vehicles were not allowed since there is a forecast starting from this evening, he said.

Khan said that more traffic including the passenger and Heavy Motor Vehicles will be allowed only after accessing the situation and weather conditions after two days only.

Notably, religious organizations and Council had earlier raised the issue about the shortage of essential commodities while the joint team of Council, Administration, Army, and Health officials Monday accessed the ground situation and stated that strengthened efforts were underway to make the pass-through.

The administration has made negative RTPCR test mandatory for entry into the district including the 3-4 days quarantine for the incoming workforce—(KNO)
