‘People were misled, used as shields in 2016 unrest'

Srinagar, Jan 09 (KNS): The State assembly on Monday witnessed uproar when the opposition parties demanded judicial probe into the civilian killings during 2016.

Opposition members stormed into the assembly well and protest demanding the judicial investigation into the 2016 unrest.

Meanwhile Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti begun her speech in which she stated that, it looks the situation erupted in after the killing of Burhan Wani was well organized, people were mislead on Pandit and Sainik colonies issues.

According to KNS correspondent, she said that when got the call from a police officer that Burhan Wani has been killed then she directed that officer to be caution and ensure safety of people while controlling the situation.

Taking on former CM Omar Abdullah, Mehbooba said that no CM of the State is aware about encounters. “Had chief ministers being prior informed about encounter then Machil encounter would have not happened,” she said.

According to the KNS correspondent the Chief Minister said that, after the Burhan Wani killing lawlessness prevailed in the State and kids were used as shields.

While condemning the militant attack in Joriyan on Monday and she regretted that she left house on Tuesday last week, said that the conditions in valley were not feasible and that compelled her to leave early.

Mehbooba said that she is regretted and sad with the situation and unrest prevailed in last year, she said that people were not expecting it from her. “Opposition is true in saying that what happened in the valley was not expected from me, because it is me who use to visit families of militants and Army camps to free people. I am equally shocked and it should not have happened,” CM Said.

“The only thing we could have done was imposing the curfew, but it was shocking to witness people were coming out from the unexpected parts and attacking camps and police pickets,” Mehbooba said.

She said that more than 50 camps and police stations were attacked and children were provoked to lead.

While adding that “It was to control the crowd attacking police stations and there are Taranas (Slogans) playing all over from the mosques,” she said, “I was puzzled who organized this”.

According to the correspondent she said that, issues like, Pandit Colony and Sainik Colony were created just to mislead and she had not chaired even a single meeting about such.

CM has expressed that our moral values were degraded during the unrest, as people were scared even they were not allowed to hospitals.

“6 people were totally blinded by the pellets and 20 people have unilateral eye damage while vision of 100 was affected, I too feel the pain of all,” she stated.

CM informed the house that, 370 people were booked in under PSA and are in jails while 138 others are under detention.

“We are starting release process of those who are not chronic stone pelters,” she informed. (KNS)
