Jammu, Mar 28: Authorities have implemented robust security arrangements, including AI-enabled CCTV cameras and drones, to ensure the safety of devotees during the upcoming Chaitra (spring) Navratri festival at the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine. The festival, set to begin on March 30, is expected to attract a large crowd of pilgrims over the nine-day celebration.
The heightened security measures come in the wake of a recent encounter with suspected Pakistani terrorists in Kathua district, which resulted in the killing of three terrorists and four policemen. This incident has prompted authorities to take extra precautions to prevent any untoward incidents. Reasi SSP Paramvir Singh assured devotees that security had been significantly strengthened in Katra, the base camp for the shrine. He confirmed that security checks were being conducted at various locations in Katra and additional personnel would be deployed at strategic points. Joint teams of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and local police, along with quick reaction teams, have been stationed to ensure the safety of pilgrims.
Over 500-600 AI-enabled CCTV cameras have been installed along the pilgrimage route, while drones will monitor the area closely. Additionally, the CRPF is keeping a vigilant watch on the track leading to the shrine.
As the shrine sees a surge in visitors, with nearly 40,000 pilgrims visiting daily, the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB) has also enhanced infrastructure, including a new covered resting area for 1,500 pilgrims at Ardhkuwari and a renovated ‘Darshani Deodi’ to accommodate the influx of devotees.
Security has also been strengthened across Jammu city and along highways in light of the upcoming Eid and Navratri festivals.
