Modi Govt’s ‘zero tolerance’ policy cuts terrorism by 71%, says MoS in Rajya Sabha

New Delhi, Mar 19: Minister of State for Home, Nityanand Rai, informed the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday that there has been a significant 71% reduction in terror-related incidents across India under the Modi government, attributing this to a “zero tolerance” policy towards terrorism. He emphasized that terrorists now face a stark choice: either jail or “jahannum” (hell).

Responding to queries during Question Hour, Rai pointed out that, unlike previous governments where terrorists were “glorified and served good food,” the current administration has taken firm steps to tackle terrorism. He stated that there have been no terror incidents in the country’s hinterland, thanks to stringent measures and the enhancement of the National Investigative Agency (NIA) following amendments to its governing act in 2019. These changes allow the NIA to investigate terror cases outside India, including the attacks on Indian High Commissions in London and Ottawa, and the consulate in San Francisco.

The Minister also addressed concerns regarding the NIA, rejecting allegations of complaints against the agency, calling them “baseless.” He further highlighted the NIA’s success, stating that 157 cases had been decided, with a 95.54% conviction rate, and 23 terror organizations were designated as unlawful under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

Rai also detailed the NIA’s proactive role in tackling human trafficking, bombings, and cybercrime, underscoring the government’s dedication to eradicating terrorism through firm actions.
