Kashmir: 1 militant killed, soldier injured in encounter in Shopian

An encounter between the security forces and ultras in the Shopian district today resulted in the killing of one militant and injury of a soldier.

A militant was killed and a soldier injured in an encounter today between security forces and ultras in a far-flung area of Dobjan village in Shopian district of and .

Sources said the militant has been identified as a local who had reportedly joined the outfit Hizbul Mujahideen recently.

The encounter broke out after security forces launched a search operation in the Dobjan village. The forces reportedly had 60 inputs about the presence of few militants there.

A police source said, “The forces have been on a lookout and received a tip off about the presence of these militants. The area is a far flung one and the police and army jointly sent teams”.

MILITANTS RESORTED TO FIRING, 3 ESCAPED

When the security forces moved to the target house, the hiding militants resorted to firing in an attempt to break the cordon, triggering an encounter.

An official said the encounter led to the death of one militant and injury of a soldier.

The official said that three militants, however, managed to escape. A weapon has also been recovered from the spot.
