Jammu, Apr 2, 2025 — The Pakistan Army violated the ceasefire and intruded into the Indian side of the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district, Jammu and Kashmir, on Tuesday afternoon, according to a statement by a defence spokesman. The violation occurred at 1:10 pm, triggering a response from Indian troops who retaliated with “controlled and calibrated” fire.
The incident began with a mine blast in the Krishna Ghati Sector, which was attributed to the Pakistan Army’s incursion across the LoC. Following the blast, unprovoked firing ensued from the Pakistani side, resulting in further escalation. The Indian Army responded effectively to the situation, according to Lt Col Suneel Bartwal, the Jammu-based Defence Public Relations Officer (PRO).
“No casualties on the Pakistan side were officially mentioned, but sources revealed that five Pakistani soldiers were injured in the explosion and subsequent exchange of fire,” Bartwal said in his statement.
The Indian Army emphasized that the situation was under control and being closely monitored. “We reiterate the importance of upholding the tenets of the Director Generals Military Operations (DGsMO) understanding of 2021 to maintain peace along the LoC,” Bartwal added, underscoring India’s commitment to peace despite the violation.
Since the renewal of the ceasefire agreement on February 25, 2021, ceasefire violations along the Jammu and Kashmir border have been rare. This latest violation highlights ongoing tensions between the two nations. (Agencies)
