J&K Amateur Fencing Assoc holds GBM, discuss future course of action

Tawi, Aug 25: The Jammu and Kashmir Amateur Fencing Association on Wednesday organized a General Body meeting of all office bearers and members to discuss future course of action related to activities.

The meeting was chaired by the President of the Association, M J Sharma (IFS) and was presided over by the President J&K Olympics Association, Ashutosh Sharma.

Nearly 30 members from different districts from across the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir participated in the meeting.

The members tabled various suggestions and advice for the promotion of fencing in the Union Territory.

President J&K Amateur Fencing Association, M J Sharma, addressing the meeting complimented the members for their enthusiasm and commitment in taking fencing to new heights.

He stressed for holding activities at all districts and intensively activating the district bodies.

“All the members are associated with the Association for the past more than two decades and it is because of their devotion, the sport of fencing has excelled manifold in Jammu and Kashmir,” said Sharma.

Lauding the members and the office bearers as well as the fencers, the President said that since the day one, when the fencing was introduced in the Union Territory, every member has contributed his/her role in flourishing this Olympics sport.

“Over a period of years, more than 3000 fencers besides officials and other members have joined the family of J&K Amateur Fencing Association. The fencers have fetched laurels not only to the UT of Jammu and Kashmir but also to the nation by participating in and competitions,” he said.

Sharma asserted that the Association was regularly organizing various competitions regularly but due to COVID pandemic, activities have come to a standstill worldwide.

“The Association members are determined to reactivate the calendar of activities soon in every district under the supervision of district bodies who are actively contributing in taking this sport to every nook and corner of the Union Territory,” he said.

He also asked the District members from Samba, Rajouri, Jammu, Udhampur, Kishtwar, Reasi, Kathua, Doda, who had attended the meeting, to gear up for future activities for which the calendar will be prepared accordingly.

Apart from this, the office bearers also proposed the name Bhanu Vijay Sharma for the post of Acting Secretary, J&K Amateur Fencing Association, which was unanimously approved by all the members in one voice during the meeting.

The post of General Secretary fell vacant due to the sad demise of Vijay Sharma.

The office bearers in threadbare discussion chalked out the strategy for the promotion of fencing and welfare of budding fencers.

President J&K Olympics Association, Ashutosh Sharma also threw light on fencing and the role of the J&K Olympics Association.

The office bearers also observed two minute silence to condole the untimely demise of Madan Lal Sharma, Patron, J&K Amateur Fencing Association and Vijay Sharma, General Secretary, J&K Amateur Fencing Association.

They also remembered the doyen of Dogri, Padma Sachdev on the occasion.
