Jammu Tawi | June 6: No FIR filed, court order not complied with, such is the reality behind multiple rapes as alleged by (non-local) poor victim who works a menial job, lives in a jhuggi, which has come to the knowledge of the Northlines.
In Channi Himmat Police Station, complainant (victim) tried to file an FIR alleging three incidents of rape by 2 accused prior to the lockdown period, which was not only avoided and discouraged by some police personnel but also pushed for an outside compromise and withdrawal of the complaint against Rs. 5000 offered to the victim and attempts of coercion and duress, alleged the victim lady.
After going pillar to post, the complainant (victim) through her counsel on June 3, 2020 filed a petition in the Court u/s 156 (3) CRPC that directed the incharge SSP, Jammu for lodging the FIR under section 376/ 379 IPC against two accused against whom the police failed to proceed.
An order was made by the court directing the SSP to proceed in the matter under the guidelines of the Supreme Court on the same day, June 3, 2020. Despite that no action has been taken against the accused.
The Northlines spoke to the SSP, Shridhar Patil who claimed that the matter was not in his knowledge, in response to which this scribe forwarded him the copy of the Court order.
The victim's counsel Aditya Gupta said that the police were not registering the complaint of victim/complainant instead pressurising the complainant to withdraw the complaint. Now the court has issued directions to the SSP, Jammu in this regard. He further said that he believes in due process and fair trial, adding that police cannot run away from their obligations and turn a blind eye to such heinous crime by using such tactics.
The girl who comes from a very humble background is living with her parents in jhuggi accommodation. She in her complaint has alleged that the accused on the fake pretext of marriage raped her three times on different occasions and threatened her to keep shut or she and her parents would be killed.
The victim/complainant (victim) had also submitted an application to the SSP, Jammu on May 19, 2020 by registered post the copy of which is available with the Northlines, but no action has been reportedly taken despite such representation.
