IWT: Neutral Experts inspect flow of water, visits power station tunnel in Kishtwar

    Date:

Tawi, June 25: The 40-member delegation of Neutral Experts including from Pakistan, visited different units of the 850-megawatt ratio project in the Kishtwar district on the second leg of their four-day visit to Jammu and on Tuesday.

The delegation headed by Michel Marc Lino, as per credible sources, toured the downstream of the project and tunnel areas where the power house is being constructed.

“The delegation also went to the Drabshalla area and returned to Kishtwar town later,” they said, adding that at the Ratle project site, the ‘Neutral Experts' visited the downstream area to check the flow of the water coming out of the tunnels.

Sources said that the delegation may visit the Doda district on Wednesday to inspect the river Chenab water flow.

The delegation on June 23 arrived in Jammu and on Monday they flew to the Kishtwar district.

The delegation is on a visit to Jammu and Kashmir after called for the settlement of issues by Neutral Experts as per the already laid down guidelines of Indus Water Treaty (IWT).

Pakistan earlier had also requested the settlement through neutral experts but later on withdrew and had sought adjudication through a Court of Arbitration.

Pakistan had raised objections to design features of Ratle hydroelectric power project and Kishanganga hydroelectric power project.

Notably, the Indus Water Treaty (IWT) is a water-distribution treaty between India and Pakistan, arranged and negotiated by the Bank, to use the water available in the Indus River and its tributaries.
