ISRO announces launch of PSLV-C39 with IRNSS-1H on Aug 31

Date:

BENGALURU: Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) will launch the IRNSS-1H satellite in the NavIC series of navigation satellites onboard PSLV C39 on August 31 at 1859 hrs from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh.

According to ISRO the satellite would augment the existing seven satellites in the NavIC constellation meant for offering navigational series in the subcontinent.

ISRO had to go in for a spare satellite following the failure of atomic clocks in the earlier satellites.

IRNSS satellites are part of the indigenously developed regional satellite navigation system. It is an independent Indian Satellite based positioning system for critical applications.

The main objective is to provide Reliable Position, Navigation and Timing services over and other SAARC countries other than Pakistan, to provide fairly good accuracy to the user.

The IRNSS will provide basically two types of services namely Standard Positioning Service (SPS) and Restricted Service (RS)       Space Segment consists of seven satellites, three satellites in GEO stationary orbit (GEO) and four satellites in Geo Synchronous Orbit (GSO) orbit with inclination of 29 degree to the equatorial plane.

All the satellites will be visible at all times in the Indian region. All the seven Satellites of NavIC, namely, IRNSS-1A, 1B, 1C, ID,1E, 1F and 1G were successfully launched on July 02, 2013, Apr 04, 2014, Oct 16, 2014, Mar 28, 2015, Jan 20, 2016, Mar 10, 2016 and Apr 28, 2016 respectively, and all are functioning satisfactorily from their designated orbital positions.  (AGENCIES)
