Despite claims of tightening noose against smuggling of green gold, an influential contractor has allegedly cut trees of valuable species from state land in the villages of District Reasi, Tehsil Pouni.
According to reports, the contractor illicitly transported the wood out of these villages.
Former Sarpanch of Kothiyan, Neelam Kumari, highlighted the severity of the issue, alleging that a significant amount of wood has been unlawfully removed from state land.
“Such actions could not have occurred without the collusion of officials from the concerned department,” she asserted.
Expressing frustration over the lack of response, ex Sarpanch demanded swift action against the contractor involved in exploiting trees from state land.
She urged the Additional Chief Secretary to launch a thorough inquiry to determine the extent of the wood pilferage and identify any complicit officers.
Additionally, she called for the recovery of the illegally obtained wood to mitigate further environmental damage.
