Lately, it has become a common scenario in the country that anti-social and anti-national actors disrupt daily life by sending bomb threats at the busy airports via emails. In this context, the latest case has come to the fore at Jammu Airport where reportedly a full anti-sabotage drill was carried out after a private airliner received a bomb threat email. As in many past cases across Indian cities, nothing suspicious was found during aforesaid drill conducted by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and police.
Although the reports have confirmed that normal schedule was not affected by the anti-sabotage drill but it is evident that such threats disrupt daily operations and at times put the passengers into trouble as they have to go through stricter security checks as these threats cannot be taken as lightly. It is pertinent to mention that it was not only Jammu Airport but over 300 schools in Delhi and various other airports across the country, which had received similar threats yesterday giving a tough time to the security agencies to carry out safety drills as was conducted at Jammu Airport.
Reportedly, the threat emails were sent by a group ‘Terrorizers111’, which had earlier also sent such threatening communications. The messages reportedly arrived in the inboxes of more than 300 email addresses belonging to schools and institutions in Delhi at 6:08 AM. Besides, emails were also sent to Delhi Airport, among other airports in the country. In recent months, several educational institutions and other vital installations have repeatedly been targeted with bomb threats.
About a week ago, many schools, including DPS Dwarka, Krishna Model Public School, and another Sarvodaya Vidyalaya received such threats in Delhi. As reports have confirmed that such hoax calls have become a norm rather than exception as in 2024 up to November 14, airlines in India have received 999 hoax calls of the similar nature and airlines across India had received 24 hoax bomb threat calls this year till March 25. Considering the intricacies associated with this problem, the government should identify the perpetrators and take an exemplary penal action to deter the wrongdoers once and for all because the country cannot afford such kind of disruptions intended to hinder progress and disturb national peace.
