Gurdaspur, Pathankot on edge as 2 suspected terrorists spark fear

The districts of Gurdaspur and Pathankot along the international border were placed under high security following reports that two armed individuals were spotted in the region. According to local police sources, a late-night call was received from a village near the border claiming that two masked men carrying weapons had entered their property and demanded food before departing towards Pathankot.

In response to the alert, senior police officials from Gurdaspur and Pathankot held urgent meetings to review the security situation. Checks were intensified across key transportation hubs like railway stations and bus stands in multiple towns. Vehicles on the major highway connecting Gurdaspur and Pathankot were also being inspected. Neighboring police jurisdictions such as Batala were notified of the developments.

The military and border guarding forces were apprised of the incident. Sensitive installations in the vicinity including an air force base were placed under tight vigil. As the investigation progressed, search operations were launched involving joint teams of local police and paramilitary personnel. Villages along the border were asked to report any suspicious activity.

While no suspects have been detained as of now, this latest security scare has raised concerns given the region’s history of militant attacks. In 2015, an armed infiltration near the border had left several police officers dead in Dinanagar. A major terror strike was also carried out at the Pathankot air base the following year. Local authorities urge residents to remain cautious and cooperate with the ongoing security maneuvers.
