Jammu and Kashmir administration is going to hold an important meeting on Monday to decide whether to allow the traditional Muharram processions in Srinagar, reports said on Saturday.
Divisional Commissioner in this regard has asked the concerned officials including the Jammu and Kashmir Police Chief to attend the meeting that will be held on Monday (24 July).
Sources said that All J&K Shia Association Srinagar, All J&K Anjuman Sharie Shian, Darul- Mustafa Budgam, All J&K Anjuman Sharie Shian, Shariatabad Budgam and Community Development & Employment Foundation Hawal Srinagar heads have been requested to attend the meeting.
“The meeting has been called to take a decision whether the 8th Muharram procession will be allowed or not,” Muhammad Maqbool Ronu, one of the members of Community Development Front said.
He said that it will be the second meeting which will be presided over by LG Manoj Sinha on 24 July at Civil Secretariat.
Ronu said that government is ready to allow the processions on certain conditions including the limited number of mourners in the processions.
“We are hopeful that this time Muharram processions will be allowed after a gap of over 35 years,” he said.
An official on condition of anonymity said that besides DGP Dilbagh Singh, Principal Secretary to Govt, the Housing & Urban Development Department, Principal Secretary to Govt, the PWD (R&B), Principal Secretary to Govt, the Power Development Department, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, ADGP, Security, ADGP, Kashmir Zone, Commissioner Secretary to Govt, Rural Development Department, Commissioner Secretary to Govt, FCS&CA, Director, Fire & Emergency Services J&K, Inspector General of Police, Traffic, Secretary to Govt, Health & Medical Education Department, Deputy Commissioner & Sr. Superintendent of Police, Managing Director, KPDCL, Commissioner, Srinagar Municipal Corporation and other top officials have been asked to attend the meeting.
Officers from Jammu have also been asked to attend the meeting through virtual mode.
