Mumbai, Oct 19: Central Railway will operate 1,702 special trains during the Diwali and Chhath Puja festivals to help passengers travel to their destinations and celebrate with their families, officials said on Saturday.
CPRO Swapnil Nila told news agency that the trains will depart from major stations including Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, Lokmanya Tilak Terminus, Pune, Kolhapur, and Nagpur. Over 800 of these trains will connect passengers to Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, and the northeastern states, while others will serve additional routes across the country.
To ensure passenger comfort and safety, holding areas with a capacity of over 3,000 passengers each have been set up at major stations, equipped with food, water, toilets, and fans. Extra ticket counters and mobile UTS services have also been arranged to reduce waiting time.
The Indian Railways has also decided to take strict action against social media accounts sharing misleading videos related to railway operations. Over 20 accounts have been identified, and FIRs are being filed. A 24×7 monitoring system has been put in place to curb false information.
Railways have urged passengers to rely only on official notifications and verified social media handles of the Ministry of Railways—@RailMinIndia on X, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube—for authentic updates. (Agencies)
