Srinagar, Jul 27: The Meteorological Centre Srinagar has forecast a fresh spell of rain and thundershowers across Jammu and Kashmir from July 28 to 31, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall, flash floods, landslides and mudslides in vulnerable areas, particularly in the Jammu division.
According to the MeT Department, scattered rain and thundershowers are likely at many places on July 27, mainly during the late afternoon and evening, with weather expected to improve thereafter.
Between July 28 and 31, the Kashmir division is expected to witness several spells of light to moderate rain and thundershowers at most places, with brief but intense showers likely in a few districts, generally during the early morning and late afternoon or evening hours.
In the Jammu division, light to moderate rain is forecast at most places, while a few districts are likely to experience heavy to torrential rainfall. Udhampur and adjoining areas are expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall, with the most intense activity predicted during July 30-31.
The forecast also indicates one or two spells of rain and thundershowers at many places across the Union Territory during August 1-2.
From August 3-4, the MeT has predicted another spell of rain, with the possibility of heavy rainfall, torrential showers and brief intense downpours in a few districts of the Jammu division.
The department cautioned that torrential rain and intense showers during July 28-31 could trigger flash floods, landslides and mudslides in vulnerable locations, with peak activity expected over Udhampur and adjoining areas on July 30.
The MeT has advised residents, tourists, travellers and transporters to remain vigilant, follow official advisories and avoid flood- and landslide-prone areas during the forecast period. (GNS)
