Srinagar, Aug 18 (UNI) Taking a serious view of an Police personnel’s unruly behaviour towards some media persons in Srinagar a day ago, Director General of Police (DGP), Dilbagh Singh on Wednesday directed the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) to take immediate action against the erring police officer.
A police spokesman on Wednesday in a tweet said, ‘DGP J&K Dilbag Singh took a serious view of undesirable behaviour with some media men in Srinagar yesterday. SSP Srinagar directed to take immediate action against the erring police officer’.
During the police action to disperse Shia mourners who defied restrictions and tried to take out a procession in Srinagar on the eighth day of Muharram, a number of media persons, mostly photojournalists and videographers were also thrashed by a police officer. Camera of a photojournalist was also damaged.
Police action on journalists evoked sharp reactions from politicians and media organisations who have demanded action against the police officer and compensation to journalists.
