    Deteriorating Law & Order

As published in the print media, the statement of ADGP Jammu, Anand Jain in context with the broad daylight murder of a person in Jewel Chowk area as ‘normal’ speaks a lot about the deteriorating law and order situation in the region.

Though the police officer wanted to convey that the killing was not the act of terrorism but claiming the incident to be normal tells a lot about the dwindling law and order situation and the complacency of the police in such cases, where a human life has been lost in the middle of a busy market, and at a place not far away from a full-fledged police station and the spot where main function of Republic Day is scheduled to be held after a gap of just five days.

There is another crucial aspect of this cold blooded murder that there are dangerous gangs active in the Jammu City because most of the people living in this part of the UT staunchly believed that the place is serene and crime-free and now all of a sudden they are being told by the media reports that there exists gangs of criminals in this region which are so brazen that they can commit crimes in the broad daylight without the fear of law of the land or those having the responsibility to implement the same on ground.

Although, the police has claimed that the assailants have been identified and sooner than later the culprits will be behind the bars, but what is more important for the men in Khaki in Jammu region is to work on eliminating this gang culture because such shootouts can be risky for the common man, who has nothing to do with the crime world and the criminals.

The need of the hour is that the administration should intervene and ask the top police functionaries to come up with a comprehensive plan to end this culture of guns and goons from the soil of Jammu Division because the lives of citizens are very precious and no one should be allowed to take law into his or her hands and pose a risk to the people as was seen in the case of Tuesday’s firing incident which led to killing of an alleged gangsters at the hands of some people reportedly belonging to a rival gang.
