NEW DELHI, Mar 25: Delhi Police on Wednesday busted a cross-border arms smuggling module with links to Pakistan, Nepal and Bangladesh, arresting 10 people and recovering a large cache of sophisticated foreign-made weapons.
According to police, 21 firearms, including sub-machine guns and automatic pistols, along with 200 live cartridges, were seized during the operation. The haul included high-end weapons sourced from multiple countries.
Among the recovered arms was a sub-machine gun manufactured in the Czech Republic, along with pistols of various international makes. These included PX-5.7 pistols, commonly used by special forces, Stoeger pistols from Turkey, PX-3 pistols from China, and Shadow CZ pistols from the Czech Republic. Pistols made in Italy, Brazil and Germany were also recovered.
Preliminary investigation indicated that the module was part of a well-organised international network engaged in smuggling and supplying illegal arms to criminal elements in India. The accused were allegedly in contact with handlers and suppliers operating from neighbouring countries.
Police said the syndicate used covert routes and intermediaries to transport weapons across borders and distribute them to contacts in different parts of the country. Efforts are underway to trace both backward and forward linkages of the network and identify other associates involved.
Further investigation is in progress. (Agencies)
