Death toll rises to eight

The Avalanche that hit Jawahar Tunnel on Thursday evening on Saturday has claimed the death of eight persons as the officials in this morning recovered another dead body from the debris at the tunnel.
The district administration Anantnag identified the eighth deceased as Sgct Parvez Ahmad of Central 's Ganderbal district.
Seven dead bodies were recovered while three others were rescued alive till late Thursday evening, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Anantnag, Muhammad Younis Mallik had said.
In this morning, the DC Anantnag informed Kashmir News Service (KNS) that one more dead body has been recovered from the debris of the avalanche, taking the death toll to eight.
Governor Satya Pal Malik and his Advisors expressed grief over the loss of lives in Jawahar Tunnel Avalanche.
Pertinently, eleven persons comprising six policemen, two fire service personnel and two prisoners were buried alive after a snow avalanche struck a police post near Jawahar Tunnel following which the rescue operation was launched in which Army, paramilitary, police, SDRF and locals supported the administration in making this operation successful by coordinating with officials at the incident site.
