Centre Releases Draft Telecom Rules 2026 for Public Feedback

New Delhi, June 12: The Centre has released the draft Telecommunication Rules, 2026, governing television, radio and related broadcasting services, and invited public comments on the proposed framework till July 27.

Issued by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the draft rules seek to bring various guidelines governing television and radio services under a single regulatory framework in line with the Telecommunications Act, 2023. The move aims to replace the fragmented system that operated under the Indian Telegraph Act, 1885.

According to the Ministry, the proposed rules are designed to simplify regulations, harmonise procedures and promote ease of doing business in the television and radio broadcasting sector.

Among the key reforms, the draft rules do away with the requirement of signing the Grant of Permission Agreement and introduce a transparent adjudication mechanism for resolving disputes and regulatory issues.

The Ministry said the new framework will streamline compliance requirements and provide greater regulatory clarity for broadcasters and other stakeholders.

The draft rules have been placed in the public domain on the Ministry’s website, and stakeholders, industry representatives and members of the public have been invited to submit their comments and suggestions before the consultation period ends on July 27. (Agencies)
