BSF DG Flags Off Jammu Marathon

Jammu, Nov 9: Marking a landmark public engagement after Operation Sindoor, Border Security Force (BSF) Director General Daljit Singh Chawdhary on Sunday flagged off the Jammu Marathon, the first such event organized by the BSF in the region. The marathon, held to commemorate the 60th Raising Day of the force, aimed to promote fitness and a drug-free lifestyle among youth.

According to the BSF, more than 6,000 participants from across the country — including civilians, security personnel, students, and foreigners — registered for the event, which featured 42 km, 21 km, and 10 km race categories, along with a 5 km fun run. Many runners carried the national flag and chanted patriotic slogans in support of the BSF and the nation.

“This is the first time BSF is organising a marathon in Jammu to promote physical fitness and a drug-free India. When we become fitness conscious, it naturally strengthens our nation. The prime minister’s Fit India vision will truly be realised when every citizen adopts a healthy lifestyle,” DG Chawdhary said.

Reflecting on the BSF’s vital contribution during Operation Sindoor, he said the mission had strengthened public confidence in the force and inspired more youth to join its ranks. “This marathon shows how the BSF remains connected with the people while striving to build a drug-free India,” he added.

The BSF chief also expressed gratitude to participants and the J&K administration for their support. He said the overwhelming participation reflects growing public faith in the BSF’s service and dedication.

Several foreign athletes, including runners from Kenya, joined the event and praised the BSF for hosting the marathon. “It’s a wonderful initiative by the BSF. It’s my first visit to Jammu — the weather is great, and the atmosphere is peaceful,” one participant said. (Agencies)
