Assembly Elections should wait

Date:

The countdown of ending the Governor's rule has began and the imposition of President's rule is on December 20 is fast approaching with just 10 days left. The Election Commission may not accept the demand made by Conference president, Dr Farooq Abdullah that the Assembly election should be held soon.
It seems that neither the central Government nor the Election Commission are ready to hold Assembly elections. Keeping in view the political scenario available in the state, would sure be placed under the President's rule. There is no limit for the President's rule and by dissolving the House the Governor has set the stage for delayed Assembly election.
The Governor's administration and also centre would definitely wants to stabilize the recently established Civic and Panchayti Raj institutions, significant legislative and policy decisions which are being criticised by the centric political parties and there is all possibilities that the same would be reversed on the next available opportunity if the NC, PDP or any Kashmiri dispensation with the support of Congress comes to power in the state after next elections. The Centre will not take any such risk of any likely dilution of these pro-people initiatives to break the hegemony of the traditional political element. Farooq Abdullah wants early Assembly election because he feels that this is the time for the NC to regain power and he has already announced that forming a coalition Government is like running the Government on crutches. This indicates that Farooq Abdullah is confident in securing absolute majority and that is why he has ruled out the possibility of sharing power with the Congress.
It seems that the Centre will not oblige any such move that will reverse the gains on the ground under Governor's rule. Further, the Centre will not want to disrupt the free hand given to the security forces to improve the present security scenario in which the security forces are having an upper hand.
