Jammu Tawi, Oct 02: Referring to abrogation of Article 370 as accomplishment of  Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh’s (RSS) long cherished dream, the RSS chief (Sarsanghchalak), Mohan Bhagwat on Saturday said that Article 370 has gone but a still lot of ground work is yet to be done to change the mindset of certain people.

“Some people spoil the system so we have to change the mindset to achieve our real goal,” Bhagwat said, without naming anybody.

“The system (repealing of Article 370) has changed for good but the mindset is yet to go,” the RSS chief said, while addressing a gathering of prominent people here at Zorawar Singh Auditorium of Jammu University (JU).

Bhagwat, who is here on a 3 day visit, said the system has changed and now the next objective is to change the mindset after which the real dream of RSS will be accomplished.

“No doubt, the system has changed but it takes only a few people to spoil the system so we have to work on changing this mindset,” he said in an indirect reference to those demanding revocation of Article 370, which gave special status to the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir.

Revocation of Article 370 paved the way for development and also ensured that people of India including those of Jammu and Kashmir get equal rights, Bhagwat said adding, ‘The all-round development will only be possible once the mindset is changed’.

“We achieved our goal (abrogation of Article 370) after lot of sacrifices and a long struggle started by Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee,” Bhagwat said, adding, “now, the new system is in place and efforts now must be made to change the mindset to ensure all round development”.

“People get the government they deserve,” he said, adding, “so we have to work towards building a society which keeps nation first rather than personal interests”. We have to work toward building a society which keeps nation first, he said.

Many systems were there in the western and other countries like socialism, communalism, capitalism etc but the people and the rulers there kept personal interests ahead rather than the interests of the country and the society due to which the public resentment always remained there, Bhagwat said adding, “the world is now looking towards Bharat which has the culture and civilization since times immemorial”.

“The world is looking at us (Bharat) and we must work towards making our country the Vishav Guru,” he said.

Asserting that the Sangh must set an example for others by creating a peaceful society that takes everyone along, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat on Friday stressed setting up a network of ‘shakhas’ across Jammu and Kashmir to ‘inculcate patriotism’ among people.

On Friday, he held detailed discussions with pracharaks on various aspects especially working of the Sangh in the union territory, an RSS spokesman said.

Bhagwat stressed spreading of the organisation’s work in new areas and further setting up the network of RSS shakhas in every nook and corner of Jammu and Kashmir to inculcate patriotism among people, he said.

The RSS chief said swayamsevaks must set an example for others by creating a peaceful society that takes everyone along.

“We have to expand our work scope and make it more organized,” he said.

The Sarsanghchalak also reviewed various projects initiated by the J-K RSS for the development of villages and rural economy, the spokesman said.

Bhagwat arrived in Jammu on Thursday on a four-day visit to the union territory during which he will meet intellectuals and prominent citizens.

This is Bhagwat’s first visit to Jammu and Kashmir since August 5, 2019, when the erstwhile state’s special status was ended and it was bifurcated into union territories — J-K and Ladakh.

Dr Goutam Mengi, Seh Prant Sanghchalak and Sita Ram Vyas, Uttar Kshtra Sanghchalak, accompanied Dr Bhagwat on the dais.
