20 House Boats, Shikaras brought to Jammu from Valley

Jammu Tawi, Jul 01: For the first time, the Government of the Union Territory (UT) of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) has decided to promote tourism in Jammu on the pattern of Kashmir by bringing in House Boats, Shikaras and Motor Boats for the tourist at the Tawi River Front on the pattern of Dal Lake.
It may be mentioned that the Tawi River Front at Jammu has been developed on the lines of Sabarmati River Front of Gujrat. “The government has decided to promote tourism in Jammu on the pattern similar to Dal Lake, where tourists enjoy Shikara and house boat ride,” sources informed the Northlines.
They said around 20 House Boats, and one Shikara have been brought to Jammu from Kashmir for the tourists at Tawi River Front. Apart from this, around 6 boats have also been brought from Kashmir to Jammu to attract tourists.
However, the contractor said that House Boats, Shikaras and Motor Boats are meant only from the commencement of the Amarnath Yatra till its culmination.
However, the official sources said that the government may consider ride of Shikaras and House Boats at Tawi River Front after the culmination of the holy Amarnath Yatra.
Meanwhile, the government has been trying to attract tourist/pilgrims through various means to enjoy Shikara, house boat and Motor boat ride at Tawi River Front.
It may be mentioned here that the Holy Amarnath Yatra will begin on 3rd of this month and the pilgrimage will be of 57 days.
To ensure that the yatris undertaking the holy Amarnath Pilgrimage this year are not overcharged heavily, the government, for the first time, has issued the rate list for various vehicles ferrying the pilgrims.
The rate list issued by the Government of the Union Territory (UT) of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) has been prepared in such a way so that it covers all the routes of the different tourist destinations of J&K and also the pilgrims travelling from Jammu to Kashmir and back from Kashmir to Jammu.
