    8 Newly-Elected MPs Take Oath As Rajya Sabha Members

    New Delhi, June 29: Eight newly-elected members of the Rajya Sabha, including Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and BJP leader Tarun Chugh, took oath as members of the Upper House on Monday.

    Rajya Sabha Chairman C.P. Radhakrishnan administered the oath of office to the newly-elected members. While Kharge took oath separately in the Chairman’s chamber, the remaining seven members were administered the oath in the Rajya Sabha chamber.

    Besides Kharge and Chugh, those sworn in included Jitendra Meghjibhai Kanzariya and Mansingh Meraman Parmar from Gujarat, M. Nagaraja from Karnataka, Rajendra Hiralal Jain from Maharashtra, Adhikarimayum Sharda Devi from Manipur and Alka Singh from Rajasthan.

    Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh, Leader of the House J.P. Nadda, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju and Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal were present during the oath-taking ceremony in both the Chairman’s chamber and the House.

    Kharge took the oath in Hindi while holding a copy of the Constitution. Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra were present during the ceremony.

    Radhakrishnan congratulated the newly-elected members and welcomed them to the Upper House. (Agencies)
