Jammu, June 29: Hundreds of vehicles were stranded on the Mughal Road after heavy rains triggered a massive mudslide near Pir Ki Gali, disrupting traffic on the key route connecting Rajouri and Poonch districts with the Kashmir Valley, officials said on Sunday.
According to officials, continuous rainfall caused a mudslide that blocked more than half a kilometre of the road near Pir Ki Gali, bringing vehicular movement to a complete halt.
Passenger vehicles as well as goods carriers remained stranded on both sides of the affected stretch as traffic was suspended.
Road clearance teams, along with heavy machinery, have been deployed to remove the debris and restore traffic at the earliest, officials said.
They advised commuters to avoid unnecessary travel on the Mughal Road until the route is cleared and weather conditions improve.
The Mughal Road serves as a crucial alternative link between the twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch in the Jammu region and Shopian district in the Kashmir Valley, and is a vital connectivity route for residents of the border areas. (Agencies)
