Shopian, Jan 5: Authorities on Monday suspended all vehicular traffic on the Mughal Road following fresh snowfall at Pir Ki Gali, citing unsafe road conditions due to snow accumulation.
Senior Superintendent of Police (Traffic) said the decision was taken in view of adverse weather conditions at the high-altitude pass. “All traffic on Mughal Road is hereby stopped with immediate effect due to fresh snowfall at Pir Ki Gali. The restriction will remain in force till further notice,” the SSP Traffic said.
The Mughal Road, a crucial link connecting the Kashmir Valley with Rajouri and Poonch districts of the Jammu region, is prone to frequent winter closures owing to heavy snowfall and slippery conditions in higher reaches.
Traffic authorities have advised commuters and transporters to avoid travel on the Mughal Road until an official clearance is issued. Further updates on the resumption of traffic will be shared after a fresh assessment of weather and road conditions.
Meanwhile, residents of adjoining areas have been urged to remain cautious and strictly follow advisories issued by the administration as snowfall continues in upper reaches. (KNT)
