Mendhar/Jammu, Jan 5: A rusted mortar shell was recovered from a forward village near the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district on Monday and was later destroyed in a controlled explosion, officials said.
The unexploded shell was spotted in an open field by villagers of Upper Ghani in the Balnoi area of the Mankote sector around 11.15 am. Police were immediately alerted and a team rushed to the spot to secure the area.
Army experts were subsequently called in and safely destroyed the mortar shell through a controlled blast. Officials said no damage or injury was reported during the operation. (Agencies)
