New Delhi, July 23: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday accused the Congress of avoiding a parliamentary debate on the NEET paper leak issue, asserting that the NDA government is prepared to discuss the matter and answer all questions concerning students and examination reforms.
The exchange came after Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had harmed the future of the country’s youth and allowed the education system to deteriorate.
The political confrontation intensified as MPs from both the ruling NDA and the Opposition staged rival protests outside the Makar Dwar in Parliament, raising slogans against each other over the NEET paper leak controversy.
BJP president Nitin Nabin said the Congress was reluctant to participate in a discussion because it feared its “double standards” would be exposed. He challenged Rahul Gandhi and the Opposition to debate the issue in Parliament, maintaining that the government was ready to discuss NEET and all issues concerning students and youth.
BJP leaders Sambit Patra and Sudhanshu Trivedi also accused the Congress of politicising the issue instead of engaging in a constructive debate. They said the government was committed to protecting students’ interests and enacting stringent measures against examination irregularities.
The BJP’s remarks followed Prime Minister Modi’s announcement that fast-track courts would be established to ensure swift trials and stringent punishment in paper leak cases. Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal described the move as a major step towards delivering speedy justice in such cases.
Earlier, Rahul Gandhi demanded the dismissal of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, an apology to students and action against those responsible for assaulting protesters, alleging the Centre had failed to safeguard the country’s education system. (Agencies)
