ECI Orders Strict Enforcement of Model Code of Conduct in Bihar

Patna, Oct 8: The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Wednesday directed the immediate enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) across Bihar, two days after announcing the state assembly election schedule.

The Commission emphasized strict compliance, including removal of defacement from public and private property, prohibition on misuse of official vehicles, government accommodation, or personnel by political parties or candidates, and maintaining citizen privacy by banning demonstrations outside private residences.

To monitor violations, a 24X7 complaint system has been activated via Call Centre (1950) and the C-Vigil App on ECINET. Additionally, 824 flying squads have been deployed statewide to respond to complaints within 100 minutes.

Political parties must inform authorities in advance about meetings or processions, obtain permissions for loudspeakers, and comply with prohibitory orders. The ECI also barred transfers of officers involved in the election process to ensure impartiality. Public spaces such as maidans and helipads will be accessible on a first-come, first-served basis through the SUVIDHA module on ECINET, promoting transparency and fairness.

Officials have been tasked with maintaining law and order while safeguarding the credibility of the electoral process. (Agencies)
