JAMMU, Sept 30: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday paid obeisance at the cave shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi in Reasi district, praying for peace and prosperity in the Union Territory. The pilgrimage continues smoothly during Navratri, with over 1.35 lakh devotees having visited the shrine so far.
Sharing his greetings on the occasion of Maha Ashtami, the LG said on X, “Offered prayers at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi temple today for the happiness, peace, prosperity, and good health of all citizens.” Tuesday, the ninth day of Navratri, saw devotees worshipping Maa Mahagauri.
Navratri, observed from September 22 to October 1, draws one of the highest pilgrim footfalls at the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine. Devotees from across India and abroad continue to throng Katra, chanting “Jai Mata Di” amid bhajans and spiritual fervour along the route. The Bhawan and surrounding areas are adorned with lights and flower decorations, enhancing the festive atmosphere.
A multi-tier security grid, including police, CRPF, paramilitary forces, and quick-response teams, ensures smooth conduct of the pilgrimage. The yatra had resumed on September 17 after a 22-day suspension due to a landslide caused by torrential rains on August 26, which claimed 34 lives and injured 20 others.
Officials confirmed that the pilgrimage is proceeding without major disruption, highlighting the combined efforts of authorities and the devotion of the pilgrims.
