New Delhi, June 29 — The Narendra Modi government has appointed Parag Jain, a 1989-batch IPS officer of the Punjab cadre, as the new Secretary of the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), India’s external intelligence agency. He will assume charge on Monday, July 1, for a two-year term.
Jain replaces Ravi Sinha, whose term ends on June 30. Sinha’s tenure is seen as relatively uneventful in intelligence circles.
Parag Jain currently heads the Aviation Research Centre (ARC), which played a key role in intelligence gathering during ‘Operation Sindoor’ related to Pakistan’s military activities. His experience includes crucial stints in Jammu and Kashmir, where he contributed significantly to the Centre’s counter-terrorism operations.
He has also served as Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) in Chandigarh and represented India in diplomatic postings in Canada and Sri Lanka, strengthening his profile in both domestic and international security affairs.
Jain’s appointment comes at a time when regional and global intelligence dynamics are shifting rapidly, placing high expectations on the new RAW chief to sharpen India’s external intelligence capabilities.
