Despite tall claims of the government of improving education system, the middle and primary level education in tehsil zone Sunderbani and zone Lower-Hathal in Rajouri present gloomy picture.
According to sources many middle and primary schools are struggling with a critical shortage of teachers, even the existing teachers are not sincere towards their duties.
“In some schools, there are two teachers on an average and these teachers rotate their presence, with each teacher attending school for only three days a week,” said sources, adding that the irregularity in attendance has raised questions about how teachers manage their duties and maintain student engagement.
Allegations have surfaced regarding the manipulation of attendance records.
“Some teachers reportedly submit false applications when they are absent; with one teacher covering for the other by claiming the absentee is on leave. If no inspections occur, their attendance goes unchallenged,” shares sources, adding that this system has been in place for several years, with no effective oversight.
Sources asserted that the transfer fair organized by senior officers has given teachers confidence that no disciplinary action will be taken against them.
“Many teachers working under the RET (Rehbar-e-Taleem) scheme are said to exploit the system, knowing that government policies protect them from transfers or punishments,” alleged sources, adding that there is little to no regular inspection of schools, and when inspections are announced, teachers are notified in advance, allowing them to cover their tracks.
The overall condition of government schools is deteriorating, with no significant accountability in place, maintained sources.
“Despite efforts by the central and state governments to improve education, the situation continues to worsen,” questioned the sources, adding that to bring transparency and accountability, the phone locations of these teachers must be tracked on daily basis.
