Google has introduced a handy update for Play Store users dealing with limited mobile data. The app store now allows automatic app updates using a small portion of the monthly data allotment.
Dubbed ‘Update with limited data’, the new option aims to help users stay up-to-date on essential apps even when mobile data is scarce. It works by allocating a small data budget specifically for app updates in the background.
The allocated amount is based on previous update sizes to avoid going over the monthly limit. For first-time users, it estimates the average data usage for similar devices in that region.
Enabling the feature is simple. Open Play Store settings, head to ‘Network Preferences’ and toggle on ‘Update with limited data’. Google says a gradual rollout is underway, so some may have to wait for it to appear.
