Jammu Tawi, August 23 (KIP): Though majority of Muslim women are happy with the Supreme Court Judgment rejecting triple Talaq, the All India Muslim Personal Law Board will finalize its programme on whether to accept the verdict of the Apex Court or reject it.
Well if the ALMPLB rejects the court verdict the members of the
Board will face contempt of court and the Board members have to take
into account the sentiments of 50 per cent women who feel liberated by
the court decision.
Though the Supreme Court has its jurisdiction in Jammu and
Kashmir it is yet to be seen if the majority of people in Kashmir
their separatist leaders and religious scholars accept the court
Judgment. Well the 1400 year old Triple Talaq is not in force in
Pakistan and in Saudi Arabia and naturally people in Kashmir would
have gone by the practice prevalent in Pakistan.
Since Triple Talaq is not in force in Pakistan it is to be seen
whether the separatists, who toes pro-Pakistan line, welcome the
decision of the Apex Court.
Meanwhile, the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) will
chalk out its future course of action with regard to the Supreme
Court's verdict on triple talaq in its working committee meeting
slated on September 10 in Bhopal.
“The working committee meeting in Bhopal on September 10 will take a
decision on the future course of action on Supreme Court verdict
after studying it in detail,” a leader of the Board said
Besides, other issues will also be taken up in the meeting with the
verdict being the most prominent one, said Jilani, who is also a
senior counsel.
He said that the hearing on the Babri mosque case is also on the
agenda of the Bhopal meeting.
To a question, Jilani said it will not be appropriate to comment on
the apex court's decision without studying it in detail. (KIP)
