Nubra valley in Ladakh opens to Indians only

SRINAGAR: Only Indian citizens can visit tourist places in Nubra valley in Ladkah region in and following clearance by Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).

This information was given by Chief Minister who also holds the Home portfolio in reply to a question by Deldan Namgial in the Legislative Assembly today.

She said the State Government had in February 2014 had submitted a proposal to the Union Government, MHA, to permit tourists to visit places upto Yarma-Gunbo, Tyakshi-Pachathang and Thang areas in Nubra valley so as to encourage in Ladkah region.

The reply said the MHA has accorded permission in respect of Indian tourists only.

The State Government has also requested the MHA to extend the inner line permit further from Panamik to Warshi, incuding Yarma-Gonpa, Yarma-Gonbo Monastery in Nubra sub division for foreign tourists.

The State Government has again in a communication to MHA on May 24,2016 requested for early consideration of the proposal, the Chief Minister said adding the reply from the MHA is still awaited. (AGENCIES)
