Jammu Tawi, Oct 30: Jammu region's premier health institute, Government Medical College and Hospital (GMC&H) has, of late, become a hub of adhocism with number of temporary employees going up consistently as the figures suggest that there are presently more than two hundred (200) temporary employees in the only tertiary care hospital of this region.
“There are more than 200 temporary employees engaged under different arrangements by the government who have been rendering their services at the GMC,” official sources informed the Northlines, while wishing not to be named.
“These temporary employees, working in different categories in the GMC, have been drawing salaries of over Rs 55 lakh per month,” they informed.
The total amount of salaries released in favor of the temporary employees working on different posts in the GMC is more than Rs 55 lakh per month, sources elaborated.
More surprising is the fact that doctors have also been engaged under temporary arrangement by the government for availing their services at the premier health institute of Jammu region the GMC, sources informed.
They said that the temporary employees have been working in almost all the departments of the GMC the main being the Orthopaedics, Surgery, Neurology, Opthalmology, Oncology, Microbiology, Medicine and other departments.
The temporary employees have also been rendering their services in the Emergency ward of the GMC, they said.
Not only the GMC, the temporary employees have also been engaged by the government in the high-tech Super Specialty Hospital (SSH) of Jammu also, they said.
These temporary employees working on different posts right from doctor to technicians, paramedics, nurses and other categories are there in the high-tech Super Specialty Hospital (SSH) also, a senior faculty member told the Northlines.
Apart from doctors, paramedics, technicians, nurses and other category posts, the government has also been engaging retired senior doctors as faculty members in both GMC and the SSH, the senior faculty member said.
“However, due to faulty policy, the retired senior doctors are reluctant to join under temporary arrangement,” they said adding, “How can a senior retired doctor would work under the faculty member to whom he has trained and educated prior to his retirement”.
“Many posts of Consultants, Associate Professors and Professors have been lying vacant due to this very reason,” they said adding “How can a senior doctor work under a doctor to whom he has trained and educated during his service tenure”.
Meanwhile, sources said that the PSC has not conducted exams since long for recruiting employees under different categories the main being the faculty members for the GMC and the SSH.
