Valley normal after two-day shutdown

Srinagar, January 15

Normal life was restored today after two days of shutdown across the Valley.

All shops and establishments were open and traffic plied normally here and in other major towns of the Valley today. The full-day relaxation after two days of shutdown jointly called by the separatists was given as per the fortnightly protest calendar that concluded today.

Meanwhile, the separatists issued a fresh fortnightly calendar scaling down the shutdown to once a week.

The separatists had scaled down the shutdown to two days a week in the past month, when they first issued a fortnightly calendar on December 15 after five months of unrest.

In the fortnightly calendar, which starts tomorrow and ends on January 31, the separatist leaders, Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Mohammad Yasin Malik, on Saturday night, called for shutdown only on Fridays. They have also called for a protest shutdown on Republic Day.
