Jammu Tawi, Oct 5 (UNI) Shouting slogans, the Congress leaders on Tuesday held a protest seeking immediate release of Priyanka Vadra, Congress General Secretary incharge of Uttar Pradesh.
Protesting senior Congress leaders demanded immediate release of the AICC general secretary, who is currently lodged at Sitapur guest house after being prevented from reaching Lakhimpur Kheri to meet the victims’ families.

Congress Senior Vice President and former Minister Raman Bhalla condemned the violence in Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur Kheri, where eight people including four farmers were killed in a protest against two BJP ministers.
“The apathy of the BJP towards our farmer brethren pains us deeply. Our farmers will always have our unconditional support,” he said and added that no one is above the law, FIR under sec 302 IPC must be registered against Union Minister’s son for murder of innocent farmers, he should be immediately arrested and put behind the bars for this barbaric act.”
He slammed the Uttar Pradesh government over police “manhandling” party general secretary Priyanka Vadra in Lucknow.
He said, “Priyanka was acting as a responsible leader without disturbing peace. Like any other responsible political leader in the country, she felt it was her duty to meet the families of those who were brutally treated and terrorized by the Uttar Pradesh police,” he said.
Former Minister Yogesh Sawhney lashed out at the Uttar Pradesh government and said, “BJP Govt illegally arrests Ms Priyanka for wanting to meet families. It is imagined, how much does the BJP hate the farmers of the country?”
From Karnal to Lakhimpur Kheri, their regime has unleashed a reign of terror, the protestors claimed and slammed the Central government over the alleged arrest of party leaders, claiming that the ruling BJP was eroding the country’s democratic identity through such acts.
