Gurmeet Singh, Distt General Secretary Congress and President Beopar Mandal today castigated the Doctors, Diagnostic Centres and Pathological Laboratories for exploiting the general public by adopting unethical and unprofessional practices. He said when the income of the common man has adversely affected; they are subjected to cough up very high charges on account of consultation fee, lab and diagnostic charges which are sometime not needed for medical investigation but mere for earning unethical and illegal commissions by the medical practitioners.
While the Covid 19 SoPs are in force and OPD’s in the Govt hospital are functional, the patients have no other alternative except to go to private doctors who also give consultation online and ask the patients to deposit fees in their account and don’t attend the patients physically.
He said the doctors have been charging very high fee ranging from ₹ 500 – 700 which is not affordable for the common people. There should some check and balance on the fixing of consultation fee.
Doctors prescribe medicine of the companies which bribes the doctors. They should prescribe only generic medicine and not the branded ones.
ECG, ECO, EEG, X Ray, Ultrasound, City scan and MRI centres have enhanced and raised rates so much according to their own will and no check is being exercised by the Govt to curb this malpractices by fixing the government approved rates.
The laboratory tests are also very costly and should be fixed on approval basis.
He demanded appropriate action be taken against the private doctors clinic and investigation centers as well as private laboratories by the Govt and should accessible at affordable charges.
