Contestants in fray make last minute bid before Electoral-College
Jammu Tawi, August 26: The VOTERS MEET of Lawyers organized by the Voters’ Corner Lawyers in Janipura Court Complex Jammu where all the candidates contesting for five posts of J&K High Court Bar Association made their presentation before a large gathering of lawyers. All the contesting candidates presented their respective manifestos before the voters. Voters also put questions to the candidates which they replied to.
The main issues which came under discussion included revival and rejuvenation of the institution of Bar Association in particular the backdrop of its relegation as a main stake-holder in smooth and convenient justice delivery process at Jammu and in other districts of J&K UT.
Common themes emerged in the lively deliberation put onus on the Bar Association that should concentrate on the issues concerning lawyers and the judicial working for people in litigation and those striving for judicial reliefs. Other issues discussed and emphasized were that the registration work taken away from the Judicial Officers to the Revenue Deptt should be assigned back to the Judicial Officers; closed Consumers Courts, Human Rights Commission should be reopened; Service matters taken away from High Court to CAT are suffering, those should be brought back to High Court or CAT should be shifted to High Court Complex and physical hearings should be resumed in CAT; Courts should be made fully functional with trials; many problems regarding lawyers chambers, canteen, and other facilities.
The proceedings of the Voters Meet were conducted by Convener of the VOTERS CORNER H.C. Jalmeria Advocate.
The candidates who participated were: Ashok Sharma, Mohinder Kumar Bhardwaj, Nirmal Kotwal, Ranjit Singh Jamwal – all for the post of president; Gurjeet Singh Wazir, Mohinder Pal Singh, Prem Singh Pawar, Rohit Verma- for the post of Vice President; Amit Gupta, Himanshu Sharma, Surjit Singh Andotra- for the post of General Secretary; Aditya Sharma, Atul Raina- for the post of Joint Secretary and Aman Deep Singh and Sahil Sharma for the post of Treasurer.
AK Sawhney, former president, presented the vote of thanks.
BS Jamwal, Vinod Abrol, Meharban Singh, Ajay Bakshi, KM Bhatti, Prem Sadhotra, Narinder Sharma, Raghubir Singh, Zulkarnain,Umesh Sharma, Gourab Sharma, Kunal Chib, Arvind Singh, Chanderdev Manhas, Leena Devi played their active role as member of organizing committee in the conduct of the voters meet.
