Jammu Tawi: An online interactive session was held today involving representatives of Panchayati Raj Institutions of District Udhampur and Reasi with officers and officials of J&K Social Forestry Department to enhance cooperation and active participation of people in plantation programmes of the Department.
The session was addressed by Prl. Chief Conservator of Forests (Director, Social Forestry Department J&K} Roshan Jaggi.
The members of DDC Udhampur and Reasi Districts participated in the virtual meeting. Prominent among them were DDC members Jagjeevan Lal (Reasi), Ashu Sharma, (Tikri), Jasbir Singh (Panchari) and Nirmala Devi (Katra) along with BDC Chairman Sh. Dina Nath Bhagat (Majalta), Balwan Singh (Udhampur), Nisha Sharma (Tikri), Sushma Devi (Kulwanta), Subash Chander (Sewna), Parveen Begum (Reasi), besides a large number of Panchs and Sarpanchs from across the win districts participated in the interactive session. Interacting with the PRIs, the Director Social Forestry explained in detail the activities of the department and role of PRIs in successful implementation of its various schemes and activities as per new guidelines/ rules of Government regarding devolution of Powers and functions to PRIs.
The participants were also briefed about the benefits that can be derived from the Social Forestry plantations. The participants were also assured the supply of plant saplings from the Social Forestry nurseries this plantation season under Green J&K Drive. All the DDC members, BDC Chairpersons and VPPC Chairpersons appreciated the work of the Social Forestry Department and assured to extend full cooperation in carrying out the plantations on the State village common, waste land and institutions by the department.
Divisional Forest Officer, Social Forestry Division Udhampur, Abinav Ramyotra conducted the proceedings of this online meeting. Regional Director Social Forestry Department Jammu Mohinder Kumar Gupta also interacted with all the participants. The Social Forestry Department is conducting interaction sessions with representatives of DDCs/ BDCs and Panchayats of various Districts to solicit their cooperation and support.
