‘Railway project to be game changer for JK'

Srinagar, Oct 02: Union Minister of State, Textile and Railways, Darshana Vikram Jardosh on Saturday said that around 80 percent of railway projects in and have been completed.

Jardosh said, “Almost 80 percent of the work in the railway project of Jammu and Kashmir has been completed and the remaining twenty percent will be completed by 2023.”

Addressing a press conference here, Jardosh said that she visited district Kulgam in south Kashmir on Friday as part of the ongoing public outreach programme.

“The railways project in Jammu and Kashmir is all set to become a game changer which connects the Srinagar, Baramulla and Udhampur stations,” she said.

Jardosh said, “I started the tour of the railway project from Srinagar and on reaching the Banihal station; I took a stock of the tunnel. It was good to see the efforts of the technicians of who had done a hard work in constricting the tunnel.”

“It is very hard to work to complete the railway project in Jammu and Kashmir because most of the bridges and other works have to be carried out in the hilly areas. It would be a proud movement for the Government of India (GoI) to see the project completed,” she said.

She said that the work for the tunnel never stopped, but during the COVID-19, the pace of the work slowed a bit.

“In order to boost the of Jammu and Kashmir, we have to focus on exporting goods. In this regard, we are looking for a site of handloom and textiles in many areas to compete in the global market,” Jardosh said.

Besides the railway project, Jardosh said that while India was trying hard on Swach Bharat Abhiyan, she found many areas full of plastic bottles, scraps and polythene bags lying on the ground.

“I appeal to the people of Jammu and Kashmir to take good care of the cleanliness because for the development, this is one of the major works to do,” she said.
