4 Pakistani militants killed, one apprehended in Kupwara

Srinagar, July 26: Four suspected Pakistani militants were killed and another was apprehended in a gunfight close to Line of Control in north Kashmir's Kuwpara district.

The gunfight erupted around Monday midnight when Army detected a group of militants close to the LoC in Nowgam sector, 120 km northwest of Srinagar.

“As the group was challenged, they opened fire triggering a gun fight. Four Pakistani militants were killed and another was apprehended in the fight,” sources said.

 The arrested Pakistani militant was identified as Bahador Ali, sources said.

The affiliation of the slain militants could not be ascertained immediately. The operation is still underway.

There has been a spurt in infiltration this year. According to government figures, 54 militants had infiltrated till June. As many as 35 militants had infiltrated last year.

Army Chief General Dalbir Singh who had visited last week had asked soldiers to be on alert as Pakistan might push more militants due to the current situation in the Valley. Following the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani, the valley has witnessed protests and clashes that have left 46 civilians and two policemen dead.
