Srinagar, Jan 29: Out of 40 springs tested in Ganderbal district, 37 have been found to be bacteriologically contaminated, rendering them unfit for human consumption.
The Jal Shakti Rural Water Supply Division Ganderbal/Srinagar conducted a comprehensive drive of random sampling and testing across various springs in Ganderbal District.
The findings reveal that 37 out of 40 samples tested positive for bacterial contamination, rendering the water unfit for human consumption.
In light of these findings, the general public in District Ganderbal and rural areas of Srinagar, where spring water is used for drinking, has been urged to refrain from consuming spring water. Instead, residents are advised to use tap water until further instructions are issued.
“However, if at all spring water is to be used, it is advised to use it only after prolonged boiling,” the public notice issued by Samiullah Beigh, Executive Engineer.
